How to become fluent in another language: Three tips for Intermediate level learners

Post disponível aqui em português

Are you stuck at intermediate level? Wondering whether to take a course or give up totally? Hang on in there! You’ve gotten this far, and you can go even further. Here are three of my top tips to help you gather the knowledge, tools and confidence to speak a language fluently whilst having fun.

Increase your exposure to your target language

Immerse yourself in the language that you would love to be fluent in. Read in your target language, watch films and series, and listen to podcasts in your target language.

Live the language

What does this mean? No, you don’t have to live abroad, but what really helps is to imagine if you were living in a country that speaks your target language. How would you think? How would you speak?

Carry day-to-day tasks and activities in your target language

Acitivity: You are going grocery shopping. Write a list of the items which you need to buy in your target language. If anything else comes to mind, even if it’s not related to the task at hand, write it down in your target language.

Many of us have to-do lists whether that’s in our personal or professional lives. Say what you need to do out loud in your target language.

Now, the only step left is to implement these three tips in your daily life. Good luck!
